Samleikin on a USB key: Secure login without a phone
Do you want to log in with a USB key rather than the Samleikin app? Samleikin on a USB key is an alternative for those who may not have a smartphone or tablet. The USB key meets the same high security requirements as the app and gives you the same access.
What do you need to do?
Before you can use Samleikin on a USB key, you must register it at Staravegur 9 in Tórshavn and download the Smart ID Desktop App to your computer. Read below for instructions on how to do this.
You register Samleikin by appearing in person at Staravegur 9 in Tórshavn. Remember to bring identification with you.

Before you begin using Samleikin on a USB key, you must prepare your computer. First, you need to download the Smart ID Desktop App and install it on your computer.
Download the application via the link below:
Install the Smart ID Desktop App on your computer Once you have downloaded the Smart ID Desktop App to your computer, you must:
- Type File Explorer in the search bar at the bottom of the screen and select Open.
- Select Downloads from the menu on the left.
- Double-click on the file Smart ID Desktop App 2.2.1.msi.
- The application will be installed on the computer, and the window will close automatically when it is finished. This may take a few minutes.
Samleikin on a USB key is now ready to use on this computer.
Please note that you must have the Smart ID Desktop App installed on every computer you use the USB key on.

If the computer does not have the Smart ID Desktop App, you cannot use Samleikin on a USB key. Consequently, you will not be able to log in to, for example, online banking or Vangin with the USB key.
Just like with the app, Samleikin on a USB key must be renewed every two years. Samleikin must be renewed before the expiration date. This is done by appearing in person at Staravegur 9 in Tórshavn.
Everyone who has Vangin will receive a notification in their Vangin calendar as the expiration date for Samleikin approaches.
Samleikin on a USB key is well-suited for those who do not have a smartphone or tablet. The USB key is also convenient for people who work extensively with online banking, Vinnugluggin, etc. You can complete the entire login process on the computer without having to use a phone.
Samleikin on the app and the USB key provide the same access and security.
